Engine Specs

There are two engine options for the Sierra HD, including the standard 6.6L V8 gas engine. This engine delivers 401 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 464 lb.-ft. of torque at 4000 rpm. The available 6.6L Duramax Turbo-Diesel engine yields 470 horsepower at 2800 rpm and 975 lb.-ft. of torque at 1600 rpm.


Exterior Features

Trucks in the Sierra HD lineup come with a wide range of convenient exterior features that make every project easier, such as the CornerStep rear bumper and cargo tie-downs. The 2500 has 17-inch silver steel wheels, but the 3500 has slightly larger steel wheels measuring 18 inches. While the 2500 has all-season blackwall tires, the 3500 comes with all-terrain tires that are ​perfect for tackling every path.

Available exterior features of both Sierra HD models include the GMC MultiPro tailgate, chrome assist steps, retractable assist steps with LED lighting, ​and a series of off-road packages with skid plates and increased suspension.


Towing Capability

The Sierra HD 2500 and 3500 are both excellent trucks for heavy-duty towing. When you opt for the 6.6L Duramax engine, your 2500 has a maximum towing capacity of 21,870 pounds, while the 3500 has a maximum towing capacity of 36,000 pounds. The GMC trailering package makes towing even easier by providing a hitch, hitch platform, receiver hitch, connectors, and electrical harness.

Sierra HD pickups also come with Hitch Guidance, an innovative digital feature that lets you monitor your trailer and hitch on an in-cabin display. Hitch Guidance uses a rear vision camera to obtain a detailed view of your hitch, providing a visual guideline for attaching your trailer and hitch.


Seating Configuration

There’s room for six passengers inside Sierra HD pickups, with a 40/20/40 split front bench and a 60/40 split rear bench. Lift the front seat cushions to find a small storage space for tools, first aid kits, a spare change of clothes, or travel essentials. The rear seat can be lifted on one or both sides to fit cargo items on your Sierra’s floor space.


Smartphone Integration

The 2025 Sierra 2500 and 3500 both come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration on their GMC infotainment touchscreens. This touchscreen measures seven inches on the base trim and eight inches on higher trims. Once you pair a compatible phone to the truck, you can use voice activation to make hands-free phone calls or send text messages while driving.
